Rose water buttercream and raspberry jelly macarons

Making macarons is one of my obsession. I'd never get tired of making macarons. It's so addictive to make. You can add your creativities into your macarons to make it unique. Some people find it difficult to make. Keep trying, and sooner or later you will get the hang of it.

Honey and brown butter Madeleines for mid-afternoon

The smell of brown butter is so nice. Such a unique nutty flavor! Makes the house feel so welcoming. I made the madeleines batter the night before and baked them for mid-afternoon snack. I love the sizes of it. It is so easy to pick up by hand or fork and just pop it into the mouth. Yummy!

G and Z love to have it with homemade vanilla gelato or fresh milk. For CP and I, we love having it with tea or freshly brew coffee.

Chocolate gelato on a rainy day

It has been raining here. The kids had not been outdoors much this week because of the rain. I guess making something sweet and cold for them may not be a bad idea. "Chocolate gelato" popped up in my head. I still have a ton of chocolate bars in my pantry. Milk, cream and fresh eggs are always available in my fridge. Here we go!

We made ice-cream a lot at home. G and Z love ice-creams, but different flavors, as always. But Chocolate gelato is one of the few flavors that the two boys will agree on. One batch of gelato can only last 3 days max!

Creme caramel, dessert of the day

Cream caramel or flan is my all time favorite dessert. I love the silky texture and the milkiness of it. There are so many recipes out there. I've tasted a few of those recipes and I love this recipe the most. Good creme caramel should be perfectly smooth and creamy. The recipe requires only milk no cream.  Making dessert is so fun. Love it!

These are the ingredients that you need. Simple, isn't it?

My speedy lunch

Stir fried chicken with Thai basil is a speedy food, served with steamed jasmine rice and topped with a fried egg or a sunny side-up egg. Awesome!  It's so easy to make and is easy to eat.  I haven't met any Thais who don't like this dish. Sometime I used ground beef or ground pork or prawns instead of chicken depending on what's available in my fridge. Wok fry the meat with crushed garlic and chillies in hot oil, then season them with a little bit of oyster sauce and fish sauce. Add basil. Done!

Tradition way to eat is to accompany with chopped chilli padi in Thai fish sauce and a dash of lime to taste.

Delicious!  Speedy, isn't it?

Tomato Day

Today I have a variety of tomatoes from grocery shopping.  I can't stop myself from buying good looking red luscious tomatoes whenever I see it. These are some of the tomatoes that I have today. For cherry tomatoes, I'd do slow roast to have it with bread and save some later to make tomato soup for lunch. For Momotaro tomatoes (Japanese tomatoes), we'll have it fresh as mid-afternoon snack.

"No, thanks!, I'm not a big fan of fresh tomato", I used to say that to CP whenever we had fresh tomato added in the dish. But not anymore since the day that I got to know Momotaro tomatoes (Japanese tomato). It's so soft, juicy, sweet and totally delicious. And it's so simple to prepare. All you need it just a drizzle of good extra virgin olive oil and good flaky sea salt.  Taste is heavenly.  G and Z, my two boys love it too.

Pad Thai for lunch

I've lived away from my home country for so long now. This is one of the Thai dishes that I've cravings for sometimes.  I don't normally cook Pad Thai. There are too many ingredients needed and too complicated to make, I'd rather order them in the restaurant. But today I have the inspiration to cook it and of course I want to shoot some photos. After breakfast, CP took the kids out for golf lessons. I prepared the ingredients for shooting before I cooked them for lunch. The house was quiet. I have to admit that sometimes I enjoy being alone at home to do the things that I like. Like ... baking and taking photos. I find it so fun and relaxing. It's like a retreat for me.

Half boiled eggs my version

Eggs are enormously versatile!

Half boiled eggs are CP's favorite thing for breakfast and I enjoy cooking for him.  My version of half boiled eggs, the sizes of the eggs and the timing are the key to success. I made this so often I get it right every time. Yum!

Toasted Hazelnut & Brown butter mini bundt cakes

The whole reason I wanted to make these cakes is because I like the smell and taste of the brown butter. Brown butter and toasted hazelnut are like the perfect combination.
